Artist's Comments

A few months ago I decided to make Kai and her brother into game characters. This is a stylized screenshot of the results for Kai.

Thank you :)
I originally was going to leave her skin tone on it, but it looked just too... colorful.

I did the eyelashes one at a time while post working it in PS... as usual. That's the one lame thing about making game content and using screenshots of it. Absolute hell to pay getting planed eyelashes to show up without the alpha areas causing an infinite X-Ray effect on the rest of the head behind it.

I hate eyelashes, I always have to do mine on a separate layer because it takes me 40 tries to get one good lash =)

LOL yeah. What I usually do is... well I mentioned this before but not in public... make the new layer and do several separate clicks of either the random grass brush, or a hair brush, then select the strand( s ) I want and copy/paste/distort/etc. them. Then do the next one. Once I have a small cluster, I merge those and copy/paste/distort/etc. until I have several layers of those. Yeah, its the same chunk, but with some fancy skewing they can be turned into believable lashes pretty quick.
There are 8 sets of the same cluster of one single strand making up those lashes. They are just distorted differently and moved around. It only takes a couple of minutes that way. :)

But thats the high tech way, you know I pretend to be low tech. I keep my geek side well hidden.

I think I just need to give you a body mesh and show you how to make a photorealistic skin texture on the UVW. It gives a whole new perspective to how skin goes together lol. It's funny how different painting a person and putting skin on them in 3D really is.

I cant do anything in 3D. My mind just doesnt function that way, as points of reference ACROSS a form. Ive spent too much time in my life Faking 3d on a 2d surface =)
